Little Crocheted Oil Bag

After taking a few days to rest after the Tour de Fleece, I decided to make an accessory for my wheel. A little crocheted bag from my own hand spun to hold my wheel oil.

It hangs on the back knob of my Lendrum. Now I won't lose my oil anymore.

Crossing The Finish Line

Today was the last day of Tour de Fleece 2010. I can't believe how much I have spun. My official goal was to be able to spin beehives. My secret goal, which I completed, was to spin a skein a day.

The totals:
Singles: 3360.82 yards
Plied: 1558.7 yards
Total Yards that passed through my hands: 4919.52 yards
That's nearly 2.8 miles!

Peachy Keen

The end of the Tour de Fleece is coming up. Good thing too, I'm running out of yarn ideas. Here is my new Peach yarn.

And Lemon yarn.

Cotton Candy and Sea Legs

I think I've taken my art yarn to a new level. At least for me.
Unicorn Poop

Lots of experimentation has been paying off.

Pedaling Along

Tour de Fleece is going well. My official goal for the tour is to improve my art yarn spinning abilities.
Day 7 and Day 9

My unofficial goal has been to spin a skein a day.
Day 6

Thus far, I have been able to fulfill both goals.
Day 8

I've been practicing my skills on scraps of wool from work so far.
Day 9

But I think I might almost be ready to move on to some colored wool. I've been saving it for when I felt ready. These are from Wild Hare. Left to right is Strawberry Sundae, Creamsicle, Milk and Honey, Irish Eyes, and Pacifica.

In other exciting news, I finally cleaned my room and improved my desk. Note the wool section.

Beehive Yarn

For the last three days of the Tour de Fleece, I have been trying to improve my ability to make beehive yarn.

I think I have gotten a bit better each day.

Today the mail came with some fiber loveliness. On the top left, the roving came from WC Mercantile. On the top right, the green roving came from Cosymakes. (It is much prettier in person) The bottom row is sampler from One of the Flock.

The few days ago I also got some really pretty roving I have had my eye on. The colorway is Oceanglass by Freckle Face Fibers.

Work has been going well. We had a fiber that I had to spin into bulky singles.

It was quite a job to set it all up behind the machine.

Happy 4th of July

To start off, today is day 2 of Tour de Fleece and I finished my first yarn.

Is is a super coiled yarn. I plied a 192 yard single onto a thread. It turned into 31 yards total.

Then I started on my next bit of yarn. I wanted to make patriotic yarn, but had no red or blue. So, I dyed some wool myself with Kool Aid.

I mixed and microwaved for nearly two hours. Then I let the roving dry. Luckily it was quite hot out, so I only had to wait an hour before I could spin it.

While I waited, I treated myself to some tea.

Then I spun singles.

Plied the yarn and made it into pom poms.

But the pom poms wouldn't fit through my Lendrum, so I spun the pom poms into a white single on my spindle. The yarn is suppose to look like it has fireworks. There are thirteen pom poms representing the thirteen colonies. Happy 4th of July!

Birthday Parties and Jumbling Towers

Justin's birthday was on Monday.

We had a BBQ and played Jumbling Towers.

Dan brought the generic Jenga over.

Good times were had by all.

Justin made the most epic move of the evening. He was concentrating so hard that this picture, which was an exposure of a whole second, came out perfectly clear.

Success.

Due to the hot weather, the birthday cake was replaced by an Its-it. I managed to get the candles in it, which was my crowning achievement for the evening.

Tour de Fleece

I've been holding off from spinning this week in anticipation for Tour de Fleece. Tour de Fleece is an annual event where people spin yarn along with the bike tour. I've decided to join three teams. Here's my ravelry avatar.

Rookie - because I'm a rookie spinner. I've only been spinning for 4 1/2 months.
Lendrum - because I'll be using my super awesome Lendrum wheel.
Breakaway - because I like a challenge. (Breakaway is the art yarn team)
