A Tool To Covet - 4KCBWDAY6

We've reached day 6 of knit crochet blog week. Today's prompt is to "Write about your favourite knitting or crochet (or spinning, etc) tool. It can either be a tool directly involved in your craft (knitting needles or crochet hook) or something that makes your craft more pleasurable – be it a special lamp, or stitch markers."
Well, today I managed to bruise the finger I use to tension yarn with when I knit. So I was reminded that my most favorite knitting tools are my hands. (There are no pictures of my hands because the finger is a little unsightly at the moment.) I'd talk about what happened, but it's one of the more embarrassing experiences of my life. Maybe one day when my ego has mended itself, I'll be able to share. I'm treating the finger with ice. If anyone has any suggestions on how to mend a bruised ego, I'm all ears.

So my second most favorite knitting tool combo is my ball winder and swift. I blogged about them the day I got them and we've been inseparable ever since. I'd say that I use them at least once a week, if not more.

The reason I invested in a ball winder and swift was because I realized I was spending more time winding yarn than knitting. And this realization came when it took me a whole James Bond film to wind a skein of worsted weight yarn. Perhaps I should name the pair "James" and "Bond".

Poor you! Sorry to hear your hand is bruised. Arnica cream is good for bruises (or straight lavender oil).

It's funny, but I think my most valuable tool is a needle gauge (the thing that you poke your needle into to work out the size). I am always using it to check I have the right sized needle.

I'm sorry to hear about your finger, hope it gets well soon.
I haven't really got many tools really, favorite must be interchangable cable needles I guess. Consider getting a ball winder too, sounds worthwhile.

Can you still use your ball winder and swift with your bruised finger ? For I assume new skein(s) of yarn might help in case of a bruised ego... ;)

They're pretty essential tools! I had my knitpicks ball winder break twice on me, though, so now I just use a nostepinne. It's slower but it's solid wood and doesn't break!

Hope your finger feels better! I hear chocolate and stash acquisitions can mend egos.

Haha. This is hilarious, and so familiar. I invested in a ball winder and swift a couple of months ago (when I stopped working in my LYS once a week, where I had been winding my yarn) and it has been love ever since.

Last night, though, was when I realized how much they changed the way I knit. I got home from a yarn festival dying to cast on for a new shawl using my recently purchased yarn, and I just could. Winding three skeins of fingering weight yarn by hand would have taken all night, but with a swift and ball winder, it took maybe 15 minutes (including a brief de-tangle) and then I got to spend the rest of the night knitting. Bliss.

I'm sorry to hear about your finger. I recommend ice cream.

Ooh, I do like a swift and ball winder - makes the process so speedy! :) x
